Iberian Dance arranged by Michael Connor

Michael Connor seems to be a mystery on the world wide web. My first introduction to Iberian Dance and Michael Connor came through teaching from the Royal Conservatory Guitar Series. Over the years, I have tried to find more information concerning the composer but the well seems as dry as when I began. If you have any information on the composer, it would be great to share it.

Publications of Iberian Dance

The original publication of this piece cannot be found. It appeared in the 2004 Royal Conservatory Guitar Series: Introductory Level edition. However, it does not appear in the syllabi for the Royal Conservatory series from 2013 or 2018. The piece is copyrighted and therefore I cannot offer my own copy for you to download.

About The Piece

Iberian Dance uses the theme from the famous Malegueña. It, therefore, could be described as an arrangement of Malegueña. I am not sure why it is called Iberian Dance other than to differentiate it. Like many of these arrangements, the chordal movement is introduced followed by the theme. The song takes the usual turn to a B section that is more lyrical and returns to the central theme with a more complex rhythm. A bass-only version of the theme finishes out the piece.
