Handmade Guitar Footstool (Sapele Wood)

Description

This original design is made from sapele wood, an imported hardwood from Africa with similar characteristics to mahogany. It is generally easier to work with but sometimes tears out when planning.

I’ve built these with fine furniture construction techniques without the use of screws. You’ll notice other designs available that have visibly filled holes where the screws were used. The construction takes longer but is worth the effort. As you can see from the shop photo, each stool is made individually. These footstools should last a few generations.

The finish is an oil/varnish blend of:

1 part Minwax Helmsman spar urethane, satin sheen
1 part boiled linseed oil
1 part odorless mineral spirits

You can read about my choice and the source of this finish on the Lost Art Press website. The dimensions listed below may be slightly smaller or larger due to the nature of hand woodworking. Also, color variations will occur from piece to piece as with any naturally finished wood product.
